exactly. My worry is that she is not speyed. So although she probably wouldn't win any tickets herself with a missing eye, could this poor girl be locked in a puppy farm somewhere (most are in wales aren't they?) You'd never see her if she's in one of those filthy places.

MISSING BERNESE BUFFY UPDATE 2.15PM 10th June 2009
Owner Katy Burton has just telephoned (2.15pm Wednesday 10th June 2009) with the sad news that Buffy's collar was found today and returned to her and she has now had to accept that Buffy was likely a road traffic accident fatality. Understandably very upset, Katy said she would like to thank you all from the bottom of her heart as she has been overwhelmed to see just how much effort all of you have made to circulate a plea for news of Buffy.
Will those of you who have posted messages about Buffy elsewhere on the net and beyond please now, and with owner Katy's consent, convey this news.
I'd like to add my thanks too,
Jude - Bernese Welfare UK

At least she has an answer now. Not knowing and not being able to do anything is worse> Poor family. Poor Buffy
I wish that councils were forced to scan all dead dogs and have to report them somewhere. At the moment, it's just trash to be discarded to them.

I looked up Jesters Law, as I understood that it was for this very thing, and hoped that a link here would make a few more people aware of the campaign, and it seems to be saying that it now the Highways Agency 's policy to do just that? Though I can't see an operative from date...

Re: BERNESE BITCH MISSING SINCE 29th MAY 2009 FROM CLANFIELD, HAMPSHIRE
Thanks for that Judith. The last two numbers of the best practice guidance notes show it relates to 2005. It's guidance only for service providers to teh Highways agency. Their web site states: "We are responsible for the operation and stewardship of the strategic road network in England on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport. The strategic road network consists of motorways and major trunk roads; other roads in England are managed by local authorities"
So they don't HAVE to scan and report, and it's only roads they maintain. All the others are local authority.
It's a great step in the right direction. But it's not enforced, and it's only England, and it's only Highways Agency roads.
This web page shows which roads it is a guidance for :

The Dogwardens Association have a web site which they are trying to use to list all "found" dogs on. Not all wardens are using it - or are being allowed to use it by their councils. And in my local authority area they are doing away with, sorry, done away with dog wardens all together now. But it would have been a great place to start. And then, no real way of recording unchipped or tattooed dogs at all.
