transportation and fuel prices
I wondered if when rescues etc. are asking for help transporting if they could put whether fuel costs will be covered. And this be done as standard - perhaps on the template ? The reason I ask this is, where I am more than happy to give my time freely my budget does not always cover vast amounts of petrol. Our volunteers at the refuge are never out of pocket as I don't feel that is fair on them and can put people into a position where they can no longer help. Especially in the current financial state we are facing..... I would like to know other RHU members opinions and ideas on this Ali x

Re: transportation and fuel prices
I agree that petrol/diesel prices are through the roof at the mo and probs will stay that way unfortunally. I know a couple on here DO state fuel costs can be covered but not all. Rescues have limited funds as we are aware so i really cannot see ALL been able to cough up.
This might help you.

Re: transportation and fuel prices
Forgot to add, its a good idea if Rescues could put in their request if they are able to offer fuel costs

Re: transportation and fuel prices
I agree everyoes in the same predicament but instead of volunteers having to ask ( can be degrading) maybe the rescue could state whether or ot any or all funds available ????

Re: transportation and fuel prices
I must admit that I never claim the fuel costs because at the moment I am financially able to do it without.
However I often wonder if any organisation puts this down as a "payment" to show the true cost of rescuing when fundraising etc.
Hope this makes sense.
I think it should be transparent if costs are provided or not. Not everyone can swallow costs.
As I have said before - if I cannot help and fuel costs are an issue I am happy to donate a cash sum towards it. Can't do everyone but could help with some.

Re: transportation and fuel prices
You see this is the issue as well - I am financially viable but keep putting £200 a week in my car in fuel then I would soon not be. I don't want people to have to ask. If it could be on the template then it would be up to the individual to say keep your fuel money I can do it this time....etc.

Re: transportation and fuel prices
I think it would be good if rescues maybe added how much they would be prepared to give for petrol costs or, maybe volunteers could say how much they think they will need...? It does feel a bit awkward asking though. And I know all the rescues are struggling....it's a difficult situation.
If I had the cash I wouldn't mind paying it all myself but at the moment I'm a bit skint and cannot realistically reason with my OH that it's ok for me to spend £20 moving a dog around the country but he can't buy that new Xbox game!

Re: transportation and fuel prices
to be honst i use my company vehicle but still i have to put private fuel in and with only one wage coming in it sometimes is tight ......but i still manage to help out ....i think that it would be a great idea to put this on the template that way you way just encourage those to transport where before they wouldnt
Re: transportation and fuel prices
if you look at the template you will find the question can petrol costs if applicable be covered is on it. however not all rescues are using the template
Re: transportation and fuel prices
Oh yeah it is, well fair do's then! We just need to encourage people to use the templates more then...somehow
Re: transportation and fuel prices
rescues need to use the templates they are there for our benefit - thanks to everyone for thier input - it may encourage more runs etc if people know where they stand financially..
