did anything ever happen about a poster for rhu, it would be a good idea for members to print some out and put them in local rescues, vets etc

I haven't seen any posters around the site so I don't know if anyone has already made something like this, but I have made a little flyer for people to download and use around their area to help promote RHU.

I have made it a PDF and I haven't had a go at printing it yet so I'm not sure how it will come out but it should be about A5 size so you can get 2 to an A4 sheet.

This is just a simple one for anyone who can only print black and white or wants to keep printing costs down:

http://altwearuk.com/extra/personal/RHU/leaflets/Leaflet1.pdf

And this is a more colourful one:

http://altwearuk.com/extra/personal/RHU/leaflets/Leaflet1_colour.pdf

I hope they're ok. If anyone thinks I should change anything please feel free to let me know.

It is a very good idea but things need to be considered before this goes out:

Firstly - we need rescue backup in all areas that these posters are going to

secondly - what will happen if the rescues that are backing us up are full and cannot take any of the dogs? the dogs cannot go straight into foster homes for the safety of our members (unless they are very young pups)?

i did have a third point but i can't remember what it is now!! ROFL ROFL

RHU does not want to be held liable should something happen with one of the pound dogs.

i think the posters are great. the more people who offer the more people can be homechecked to become fosterers etc too. i dont think we need rescue back up wherever posters are put up we need a genuyine appeal for people who want to help rescues and dont know how. its them we need to contact.

Yeah, I know what you mean Emma. I don't think there are many rescues from my area registered on here so far and would like to spread the word to them immediately but read in another thread that we needed to get more volunteers before adding more rescues.

My thinking is that as long as we get more volunteers registered that is the main aim at the moment, as I'm sure most people would be willing to travel to other rescues around the country if it means saving a life. I know I would!

I know it's late (early) and I'v ebeen working and tired now - and a bit slow - but can I just check something please? We want to get Rescues on board asap, but want to delay contacting pounds until rescues are on board? And we want volunteers yesterday?
Or am I confusing pounds with rescues and vice versa?
Not being arsey - just want to check I understand?

Because we are lacking in active members in alot of counties (places), we therefore need more volunteers, whether it be rescues/public/animal lovers to help. If we contact every pound where the animals need help we, RHU ,will not be able to cope with the amount of animals. Therefore we need MORE volunteers, as soon as there are plenty and we feel we can cope, then pounds will be contacted.

A pound (usually council ran) is where an animal is taken for the 7 day cooling off period(to see whether the original owner will seek out its pet)
Rescues are groups of volunteers who access animals, try to put them in foster homes but basically rehome animals.

Hope this helps.

as julie said we need more volunteers so we have a majority of databases covered then rescues then pounds.

pounds will not release without rescue back up. and rescues wont be able to help till they have more transporters and fosterers so the only way round is to get as many volunteers as we can then rescues, then pounds Very Happy

It's amazing (and hopefully realistic) to think that with enough volunteers this team could help put an end to stray euthanisation in the whole country. It's a tall order and may take a long hard committment but I honestly think it's possible. I hope that's not just me being naive!

We could do with some new faces for the pick ups in the pound down here (Carmarthenshire) as the girls who do it now are getting less and less animals out to safety (they have told the kennel owner off too many times).

It could be a good idea for us to draft a letter of some sort to the councils who pay these pounds.

Something along the lines of unless the kennels co-operate with rescues then they don't get the payments or something.

its the fact that the www.rescuehelpersunite.co.uk link doesnt work 'that' is the problem, and that is the only reason it hasnt been done sooner. as soon as we sort out the website etc then the posters are all done and ready Wink

I'm only asking this as I don't have much knowledge about forums and things so...... As some people are having trouble using the site, what is the long term plan? Is a new site going to be built so more people can use it?
