This would be due to the fact that either

(i) the person who messaged you has ceased to be a member of RHU: when an account is deleted so are the messages sent by the ex member in question.

or

(ii) you recieved a copy of the unauthorised mass PM that was sent a few days ago..as it was unauthorised we managed to block a fair few of them, so you may have recieved a notification but no message.
