Problem with signature graphics
Several months ago I asked whether an option could be added so that a member's personal view could be edited to turn off signatures from displaying.
I wonder if any progress has been made on this because at present I am having problems viewing some pages on this forum. If a page is trying to load where many of the posts on the page have graphics as part of their signature particularly the type which "sparkle" it is causing the page to "freeze" and I can't scroll up or down. If only one post on the page has the graphics it is OK. I therefore assume it is related to something like available memory on my computer. I don't in the main have problems using the internet with IE and don't want to spend money on a new computer or upgrading it.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
There is a phpBB hack here that should do what you want, but I don't know if the forumotion boards allow hacks to be added, or if it is right for this version of the software.
Another way that might stop this for you would be to right click the images and click on 'Block images from...'. That would stop the images from loading on your screen.
The only problem with that being that it will block all images from that location so if someone has added poundie pics from the same place (i.e. the same server at photobucket), those pics wont load either. You could turn the images back on if that happens but it might be a hassle if it happens a lot.

Wonderful. An expert to the rescue. I'll go away and experiment.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
If that hack does work, Admin would have to add it to the "behind the scenes" area. Also I'm not sure Admin will be able to add it, it would depend on whether this is a free forum or paid forum.

Yes, sorry, should have added that hack is for admin's use, regular users wont be able to do anything with that.
As far as I know this is a free forum so it probably wont be of any use unfortunately.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
Advice much appreciated. Sadly can't do anything as action above applies to Firefox not Internet Explorer which I use.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
Nothing has changed Julie on my screen.
The hack is supposed to add a button which allows an ignore signature button and this isn't displaying.
I've also checked my preferences bit and there's nothing there.
The other option isn't available to me as wrong browser.
I'll try closing browser window and coming in again.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
No - that didn't work.
BTW I need simple instructions to follow - I'm not a computer genius like some on here.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
Most free forums don't allow MODs to be installed onto them but some browsers (Firefox especially) have tools that allow you to block images on certain websites - so you could block either RHU images or a 3rd party site, alternatively download a mobile browser as they don't load the CSS (layout files) and in the majority of case they don't load images iether so you only get the text and thus the site loads a lot lot faster.
If RHU wanted i have webspace and database space sat idle on my servers so you'd be more than welcome to use some if you wanted to improve RHU's functionality.

you cant take a copy of all the posts, users and threads on here in case anything goes wrong, now can you enhance the functionality (how it works) either.
Re: Problem with signature graphics
Dex
I have Internet Explorer not Firefox.
I am still having problems with the page freezing.
Particularly with the graphics example above.
I can't add the user to my foes list (which compresses posts to one line and therefore doesn't show signature) because she is designated a RHU helper.
I really would appreciate advice how to deal with this so it doesn't display on my screen.
Thanks.

Re: Problem with signature graphics
Download Firefox - simplest answer, Internet Explorer does have "add-ons" but not add-able image blocker.
Re: Problem with signature graphics
I've removed my signature as im sure its causing more people problems as well and pages are loading quicker for me now too!!

That was my suggestion too!
It's very easy to download and install and should help your problem:
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
but as I said before:

So it might just be a case of having to wait until the forum gets its own hosting I'm afraid.

That is very kind of you Lianne.
Perhaps you could still have your lovely dogs shown in a signature but as a static display.
