Christmas Appeal 2008 - Homes Needed

Post by EmmaSemple on Sun Nov 16, 2008 8:45 pm

I have a list of small furries looking for their forever home.

The most important in my mind are my lovely degus. Some of these boys have been in rescue for over two years and although they are a bit moth eaten and not the prettiest to look at due to their last home where they were very neglected, they are lovable and people friendly.
I have 7 in a large cage looking for a home. They could go as a large group or could be split into smaller groups.
I also have a pair of boys recently returned from foster care who are happy little chaps and very vocal!
There is a pair of girls in with a neutered male. He is very people friendly. One of the girls have started to show signs of Glaucoma, but it is not bothering her and although this will eventually be her failing the other girl is very happy and will stay quite happily with her boyfriend.
And my last pair looking is a very cheeky pair of boys who love to swear at you if they aren't the first to get their peanut!

We also have lots of ferrets available for adoption.
We have a lovely pair (castrated cinnamon male and spayed albino female) who came in as a breeding pair - and never got the chance!
There is a pair of albinos available too. The hobb is quite young, but the jill is older and more steady. She doesn't have any canines though due to them being rotten when she arrived.
The younger ferrets in the free-run shed are all neutered, but need a more experienced owner. Most were sent here by the RSPCA after being picked up as strays and never claimed. One jill in particular can be a right little ankle biter and needs someone who will devote alot of time to her training.
Three of the girls in the shed are very special to me. There are two young kits of about 4 months old along with their mum who arrived here pregnant. These three albinos have to stay as a trio.

We also have another batch of Spiny mice who recently arrived back from foster care.
There is a group of 6 females and a group of 4 females. These must stay as bonded groups as there is an obvious hierarchy that I don't want to disturb.
There are also 4 single male Spinies available.

If you have room for a gerbil then please consider one of our singles. They have sat in rescue for far too long.
There is a very pretty agouti female along with her sister (who she fell out with a couple of months back) who is a tan colour. Mabel the black female gerbil is also looking for a place to go. She is adorable and will run up to the front of the cage and balance precariously on the door trying to reach you just to get some attention.
There is also a pair of black gerbils available who are about a year old so should not fall out with each other now. They came in possibly pregnant but weren't so that made me happy. Smile

And finally I have two single sapphire Russian hamsters looking for a home. Both are female and came in from a rescue case about three months ago. Both are quite tame, although would suit older handlers only because they are quite quick.

If you can offer any of these animals a home please contact me.

a contact of mine at Brooksby Melton college would offer a superb hands on home for all of the Spiny mice they are ideal for the animal care students and would get a great deal of love and attention

Due to past experiences of a few animal care colleges I don't home to them. They tend to breed and seek no medical advice when necessary. The worst one was the one I attended as a teenager and I have had reports that nothing has changed there.

Thanks anyway. Smile

I just seem to be getting to the point of ultra paranoia at the moment! I am surprised I rehome anything. Rolling Eyes

Many thanks for everybody's input. Many of these small animals have been rehomed now. After some research I have now decided that we will not rehome to any college's, small animal units or schools. Partly because of my own experience of being at college and the useless people that were there handling and caring for the animals (mostly the tutors) and also because they cannot seem to see the problem with breeding what they have and I cannot be sure that my rescue animals will not be bred from once they have left their care. I prefer to home to people with the same views as myself which is that there are too many animals out there already let alone bringing more into the world.

The group of 7 degus are still looking for a home. They are sweet old boys.
Happily the pairs of degus have been rehomed as have all the Spiny mice and all of the Russian and Chinese hamsters and the gerbils.

Out of the ferrets, one pair remains...the two albinos of course. All others have found new homes.

The pair of ferrets are still looking.
3 of the degus have been reserved as long as they can be transported, so that leaves 4 degus looking for a home.
